Board Game Table (2026-02-12)
The board game table that Austin Waldo built for me:

This table fits my game room exactly. It's perfect for 6 player games, and it's circular enough to comfortably squeeze 8, and uncomfortably squeeze in 10. It has mounting rails for cupholders, hidden storage for them.
If you're not buying IKEA or used furniture, I recommend finding a local designer, and building something great.
Features you may want
- Neoprene mat: Easier to pick up cards and components
- Vault: Recessed play area so dice and cards won't fall off the table
- Cup holders: Make it hard to spill
- Rail system: Expand features for different players & games. I only ever used the cup holders.
- Storage / Shelving: Store games or table components
- Detachable surface: Pause a game by putting a tabletop on it
Decisions you'll need to make
- What type of wood?
- Pedestal or legs?
- Convertible dining table?
- How high is the table?
- Make sure the height pairs with your chairs.
- Sit at an existing table that is the right height, and measure that.
- Don't make it too tall.
- How big is the table?
- 30" shoulder room per person
- Aim for at least 3' between the table and wall
- Some games require players to reach across and take things from other's play area.
- Choose the smallest size that works with the largest game and player count you expect to host regularly.
- Falling back to a bigger room or different table for large groups is okay.
